In summer, the large lawn surrounded by hedges invites sunbathing and water games. The outdoor area has its own showers and changing rooms, eliminating the need to pass through the pool to play a game of beach volleyball.

In the basement, a room equipped with large mirrors hosts sports classes. The wellness area is located on the first floor and features a spacious terrace with a wonderful view of the valley. There is also a bar where you can enjoy the restaurant’s offerings.

Guttland

Discovering the central/western region of Luxembourg

With the establishment of the Tourism Office for the central and western regions of the country (“Regional Tourism Office for the Centre and West”) in May 2016, a long-time wish of the local actors has come true. Regional Tourism Offices already exist in the Ardennes, Moselle, Müllerthal, and the South. With the establishment of the fifth RTO Centre/West, all parts of the country now have a professional regional structure.

The RTO brings together the main tourism actors of a region for better coordination of activities and increased professionalism. RTO members consist of public, private, and associative structures. The RTO (and among others also the LCTO – Luxembourg City Tourist Office) are members of the national tourism promotion structure (“Luxembourg for Tourism”) and thus have the function of spokesperson for the region at the national level.

The Guttland region, although it forms the heart of the country, is an oasis of silence and calm. Hundreds of kilometers of cycling paths (link: www.visitguttland.lu) and hiking trails (link: www.visitguttland.lu) wind their way through the unspoiled landscapes of this natural and leisure zone. The historical heritage (link: www.visitguttland.lu) is omnipresent, whether in the Valley of the Seven Castles, on the various Gallo-Roman sites, or in rural museums. Guttland presents a perfect symbiosis between the old and the modern, which is reflected in the wide range of innovative and sustainable regional projects.

Discover the various tourist publications of the Guttland RTO: www.visitguttland.lu

During the summer season of 2019, the Guttland RTO organizes guided tours of various sites every day of the week. Guttland by Night, that’s the slogan inviting you to explore many of the sites in a different atmosphere. Participation in many of the guided tours is free!

More information at: www.visitguttland.lu

If you have any questions or suggestions about the region or the work of the RTO, we are of course at your disposal.

Mersch and its center

Mersch Castle

Located in the center of Mersch, the castle dates back to the 13th century. Over the centuries, it has endured numerous attacks and suffered extensive damage. Following a large-scale renovation, it now houses the administrative offices of the municipality.

The Museum of Mersch Castle

In the former chapel, you can admire various objects once housed in the castle and obtain further information about it.

Opening hours: From May 1st to September 30th, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Saint-Michel Square with its tower

Gemeng Schlass-0349

In the center of our municipality, it’s impossible to miss the Saint-Michel Tower, the emblem of Mersch.

An octagonal and baroque bulb dome sits atop the tower, which stands 40 meters high.

The first place of worship in our municipality dates back to the 8th century B.C. on Saint-Michel Square. During Roman times, a venerated image of the Germanic-Celtic war god Lenus Mars was located there.

A Merovingian church was built, followed by the construction of a Romanesque church with three naves and three apses. In the 15th century, the church was transformed into the Gothic style.

Saint-Michel Square was completely redesigned in 1994. Since 1997, the Saint-Michel Tower has had a faithful companion at all times, the bronze dragon.

Today, a large number of festivals take place annually in the framework of the “Maartplaz”, as well as important cultural events.

Le Tourist Info

During the summer period, the Tourist Information is located inside the Saint-Michel Tower on Saint-Michel Square to provide visitors with information about points of interest in the central municipality and its region. Practical information and brochures are available for your convenience.

The Tourist Information is open from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to noon and from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. On Sundays from 10:00 am to noon.
